| Our
Logo---The Three-Winged Bird
LAPA’s
logo is a three-winged bird that was developed by a scientist
using a computer designed to chart space beyond two dimensions.
The image records the journey of a space system in chaos.
We come to see that the chaotic movements have a beautiful
shape.
The order inherent in chaos is revealed, order that is only
visible over time and history.
We
adopted this image as our logo because we believe that chaos
is opportunity. Where there is rigid organization, there
is little opportunity for restructuring. The best solutions
often go ignored because their implementation requires destruction
of some of the structure that holds an organization together.
A flexible organization is receptive to new ideas, free
to adjust to changing circumstances, and willing to break
down old structures for the sake of growth and efficiency.
In short, the more flexibility, the greater the chances
of longer organizational life.
We are indebted
to Margaret Wheatley for this understanding and refer you
to her stellar work, “Leadership and the New Science,” for
a more detailed analysis.
