Author's Note
The impetus to undertake a third edition of this directory, first published in 1990, came from the readers of the original book, people like the development staff of smaller community-based agencies, librarians of community foundations and community activist. They alerted us to new prospects, shared stories of successes/experiences in pursuing funding from sources listed in the directory, and praised, cajoled, and urged us into tackling an update of the information. These numerous communications have made us acutely aware of both the swiftly changing AIDS funding scene and the growing service needs in the AIDS community. There has never been a more critical time to make better connections between grantors and grantees of AIDS projects.
