LAPA
can help you address
Board composition, building, and development. We have four
services. We usually
recommend the first service because it is the most practical and
affordable.
-
Board
Assessment & Plan
This facilitated self-assessment examines twelve areas of
Board governance as suggested by the National Center for
Nonprofit Boards. The
process includes an initial Board discussion, a detailed
self-assessment survey that is then compiled into, a report
of our findings, and a full-day board retreat to review the
findings and create a practical six- to twelve-month Board
work plan, with assignments and timelines.
-
Board
Recruitment
– Recruitment begins with an exercise to identify the
Board needs and sources of additional Board members.
Under the direction of the current board or advisors,
we help establish a board development committee with clear
tasks and responsibilities.
Our services
include:
a long-term Board succession plan. Preparation of a
Board orientation packet for prospective board candidates.
Revision the by-laws to term limits. Identify 12 to 15
prospective candidates. Hosting conversations with
potential candidates.

Board
Roles & Responsibilities NYC Board of Directors
– This special conference day for Board of directors
reviews some of the best practices (and legal obligations)
that non-profit board members are following in doing
business with the City of New York, especially with
consideration to pre- and post- September 11th
practices. It
includes a discussion of 2001 historic study conducted by
the NYC comptroller, Nonprofit Governance in New York City,
and the recently issued Board pamphlet from the New York
State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau.

CEO
Workshop
This one-day workshop is designed for executive directors
and provides techniques for Board management.
The workshop explores common challenges that CEOs
face and provides recommendations for shared leadership.
We offer extensive consideration to the negotiation
of contractual responsibilities and executive compensation.
The workshop includes take home action plans and
sample contracts for compensation.
LAPA
can also offer consultation on your Board’s fiduciary
responsibilities and its role in fundraising, as well as create
your Board manual and by-laws.
Additionally, we also offer individual and group coaching
for executives. The group coaching is a practitioner’s
business forum focused around addressing specific organizational
management issues or dilemmas facing your organization.
